The Balls and Whitakers
Emily Blanche Whitaker (2.10.1886-14.2.1957), the fifth child of Edwin and Anne Elizabeth, was born on 2 October 1886.

Below she is seen in Peckham Rye Park in the early 1900s; the second photo dates from after her marriage.

In 1911 she married John Edward Holt (29.10.1883-7.10.1944) – seen here in 1885 aged 2 and below in a school group aged about 7.

He was the oldest son of another John Edward, son of Daniel Holt of 10 Vere Street, Middlesex, and twin sister of Fanny. John Edward senior was indentured on 17 June 1864 for a seven-year apprenticeship with a lithographic printer, Frederick Chifferiel of 34-35 Cursitor Street. He lived in Oakhurst Grove, Peckham, and died about 1895/1896 when his son John Edward was 12.

Two portraits of John Edward Holt with Emily, including their wedding portrait:

The wedding group was photographed in the bride’s garden at Peckham Grove, where the buffet was photographed before the feast.
